2009 24th May Venue: Silverstroom Strand to Melkboss Distance: 22km
2009 This was the winter weather tester and the route was turned around to have the NW wind from behind. The tide was spot on Spring Low but being a NW the sea was washing up the beach a bit in places but the overall feeling was that the sand was firmer than last time. We started from Silverstroom at 8am and set off along the jeep tracks above the beach. We skipped the first beach and joined the original route above 'Widow Hill'. Along the way we had our first casualty. The 'Spinning instructor' hit a patch of soft sand and landed on her bar end. Damage = two cracked ribs-Ouch!
The fall Start The ride got firmer and firmer as we went along. We also cut up into the Koeberg nature reserve a little earlierto make the route 24km long.
loving the hard sand
2008 The second running of this event was on December 16th 2008. It was held 2 days post spring low tide which made it that more challenging. The route is over hard to soft beach sand with a little tar and gravel jeep track around Koeberg Nuclear Power Station. There are a few portages over the rocky outcrops at the end of each bay.
